I would just like to say, that I have registered on this forum just so that I can say TT are tripe.

My broadband is garbage keeps dropping if being used up to 10 times a day, always goes when you need it most after spending hours looking for a holiday or certail product only to bow out when your trying to send your credit card info through, so your never sure if it has or hasnt gone through as a payment

Their billing is a joke, I have never changed from some option 3 thing I had when I first went with them free calls UK free calls Europe, Then I get some guy on from India saying how I can have a load of features for free, turns out free for a few months then, "Lets nail his hat on" I kindly said not interested and DO NOT Mess with my account.

As with most people I get used to paying by direct debit, bills online so they tend not to get looked at, which is exactly what these people want, your not telling me they do their research into human habits and this method works in their favour, its nothing to do with being green. Well I check my bill just because it seems too far out on my bank statement and low and behold they have started to charge me for my calls to France, something in the region of 50 Quid. so onto their pathetic web site and eventually got through to India explained the usual to this guy who really doesn't give a $1ht. I explain my situation about the bill and get transferred to broadband problems ( which I have) but that was a side issue not even mentioned, (Mystic Mehal) maybe, anyhow he duly transfers me to another call centre, the lady hasn't got a clue, while this has been going on I have worked through 6 months of statements and worked out how much I want for a credit. then get cut off 1 1/2 hours.

I then call next day listen to the dross on the phone press this do that stand on your head, I thinks Ive had enough and wont go through this again and press 2 or whatever " Are you thinking of leaving TT" too right I though I'm out of here. LO and Behold I get through to a UK call centre weird, when you want to join or bail out how they come creeping back. this guy I give him what for, not personal but after all he is a representative of this mob, he was OK actually a lad from preston no 10 miles away, he couldn't resolve my bill and duly passed me over to another number to call direct again UK. CAlled this number and then was transferred to S.Africa

Everything happened exactly as planned

The connection speed is faster than I had previously

The 'phone works fine

I haven't had a single dropped connection (yet), and getting on-line is instantaneous
All-in-all I'm happy

Hi All - I see from previous threads that I'm not the only one having problems with BB dropping out... Been great for 3 years with TalkTalk but for last 7 or so month have mega problems in the evenings... I decided to phone TT about 4 months ago and they were good at asking all the right questions and trying to do their checks. I eventually got put thru to 2nd line faults and they were efficient in re-setting the telephone exchange settings and frequencies etc... 45 minute call every time!!

This was fine till TT invented their Turbo Boost and after a phone call to tell me they were changing us to it the same problem occured.... So back to the long and involved phone call to the first line faluts.... and eventually convincing them that my side is perfect they put me thru to 2nd line again .... then they re-set everything again and perfect again till they re-boosted the line again.... so same again 40 minutes of calls to be re-set again...

This has happened about 4 times now and last time they said the case was going to go to Carphone Warehouse techies to sort out as they were no longer doing the re-set etc...

Still waiting for them to contact me with the results.. 2 weeks now... limitedly working ok but..............

NOW FOR THE LATEST SAGAS.... I CANT CONNECT TO ANY FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS since fitting a new pc. !!

I have tried ie8, Firefox and Chrome Google... It's just a total shambles... Going to try another pc tomorrow connected to my system to test. Every techie I have spoken to at PC World where the new pc was bought cant sort out the problem... so have to take it to them to test on their lines!!

Has anyone out there had this problem??.. or can TalkTalk comment??

General TalkTalk Problems :: Just Moved to TT and having huge problems

Author: max260
Subject: Just Moved to TT and having huge problems
Posted: Fri Feb 19, 2010 3:22 pm (GMT 0)
Topic Replies: 0

For the past few years I was a Tiscali customer and was about to move over to Sky until I spoke to a TT representative. After doing some research as well I decided to move to TT and use their TT Pro offer (I wanted to have the anytime free calls package) and was interested in the forecast that I should be able to get downstream speeds of about 2.5 to 3MB on their up to 24 MB package. Note that I asked the sales rep if the tech support centres call centres were in the UK as that was important to me as well. Of which the answer was "Yes! They are" (my first mistake).

Anyway, on Tiscali I have been getting consistent downstream speeds of around 1.9 to 2.2 MB for about two years now. So any increase would be nice. Though I did not expect a vast difference as I am some distance away from my local exchange (2.5 miles).

So I placed the order and was due to have my switch over on Tuesday 16th. Well! Tuesday arrived. The internet went down at around 1pm (during this time I switched over the Wirless/BB router to TT's supplied D-Liink 2740R) and didn't return until about 7.30 pm. A long time to be disconnected. BTW on Tiscali I just had a simple 2MB package. Hopeful of a decent connection I only had 500 kbps Downstream but funnily had a Upstream of around 650 Kbps. So called tec support. Woh! I was talking to someone in India. Where's the UK tec? support service then? I was advised to call customer services in the morning. So I left it at that

In the morning I called up Customer services and asked them what the problem was. They had no idea all they knew was that the BB had been connected the previous day. So I asked them why "My Account" features showed me as inactive. (I wanted to register on the Members Forum so I could discuss my problems). No idea they said. "You should have been activated. Ok! We'll send off a form so that you can be activated. It goes to operations". I asked if I could speak to operations. "No your not allowed to. But here's a number you need to call this evening when you get home from work, and someone will sort out your problem". So I though I would have this sorted quite soon.

Evening came. The number I dialled reported that I was not authorised to call this number and immediately transferred me to the Tech Supp call centre. Back in India again. It's now 24 hr since my BB was supposedly installed. This time No one new what was really going on, I tried to speak to the supervisor. Nope, that couldn't happen we'll call you back, so I asked them to find out what was going on and when would my service be sorted. They also though that my service was not installed on the 16th but on the 17th. It was tantamount to the call centre calling me a liar. Anyway after about 1 and half hours on the phone with calls (eventually got through to tier level 2 support or the pro service support (they though I have a speed boost on the line and that was effecting it)) and guess what? Nope, not in India, but now in South Africa. Well you can say TT is possessively global now. However, still no joy. Was informed that the problem was being looked at and it would take 24 to 48 hrs to be addressed. By this time I was furious and was about to say "You kow what, just cancel the dam thing and out me back on Tiscali". But I though no. Lets see and be patient.

Last night (the 18th). I called Tech Supp for an update and ask when (once more) my account would be activated). Don't know, but there has been some information placed on the system. So after a wait, I now discovered that the engineers needed a speed test result from the members page with my phone number on it. They wanted 3 infact spread out over time. (Why that wasn't asked for two days ago I do not know). Still couldn't explain why the account was still inactive. But at least I think I understood that engineers would now go back to the exchange again. "Everything should be up ok by tomorrow afternoon and should your account activation" So once again being a patient person. I wait.

It's now day 4 since my BB was switched over and 3pm. Still no proper BB service. But the Account is activated. Well sort off - I cannot register on the members forum as it believes my account is inactive.

So about to call the tech support once more.

My stats are:
Downstream
rate - 939kbps
SNR - 0.9-1.4
Attenuation - 51.0
Output power 0.0

Upstream
Rate - 861
SNR - 5.8
Attenuation - 31.7
Output power 12.3

Speedtest vary between 500 and 750 kbps for upstream.

I am so disappointed with TT. Such a poor poor service. Four days on and still they cannot fix the fault. I wonder if they are actually doing anything at all.

If anyone can supply me with any advice. Please do. But who do I call? I cant even register to discuss this on the forum.........

Are you using a TalkTalk supplied modem or router? Because if not, that's the first thing anyone should do when faced with TalkTalk connection problems.

TT generally supply their own firmware, which makes their boxes far more tolerant of unbundled line DSL variations than any setup I have seen in any off-the-shelf router, no matter how hi-spec and expensive it may be.

If you declined their router offer or prematurely disposed of it, TT will supply you with a new one for about £30. Otherwise look for a TT-supplied Huawei HG520b (not HG520s!) or latest D-Link models on eBay, and don't pay more than total £20 max...

Just to add my voice to this - I am now with TalkTalk, was previously with Tiscali who were bought out by TalkTalk. Tiscali had intermittent connection problems, but nothing serious, and these could always be fixed just by rebooting the router.

Since the switch to TalkTalk, I've had to reboot the router almost every time I connect to the internet (so every time one of our 3 computers is switched on), and as of 48 hours ago there has been no connection at all, no matter how many reboots.

I've tried 2 different routers, 3 different phone/ADSL switch boxes, swapped the wiring about, and connected to the routers by both wireless and ethernet. Both of the routers are receiving no ADSL connection at all. They both have the latest firmware, and worked perfectly for years before. Resetting the router settings manually does not fix the problem, nor does flushing my DNS.

TalkTalk support (an Indian call-centre with barely enough technical expertise to use Google) have told me that the problem is at my end, and that I need to contact my router vendor, which is a total cop-out. 2 routers from different suppliers, that both work fine on other networks? Don't think the problem is at my end...

I've been with TT for over 2 years now and had no problem untill 4 month ago when their huge ad campaign started on x-factor since then my connection has gone mad.

I've changed the phone wiring, installed iPlate, changed modem but still terrible. CAn't stay online more than 5 mins.

Have been calling them for the past two weeks and have waited at least half an hour each time listening to their stupid and anoying song before someone with no clue about broadband answers me like a recorded machine who doesn't even listen to what you are saying. They can't help you with anything so they put you on hold for another half an hour which by then i am already pissed off so i hang up.

By the way i am supposed to get 24mg but each test gives me 5mg just like they promissed.

This is the most inefficient organisation that I have come across in many years. It takes forever to get things done, trying to contact them is a nightmare. See my earlier post. Their website is cumbersome, extremely slow and not very clear. I beg of you to find another organisation, even if necessary use BT.

Hi All,

I'm right on the verge of switching-over to TalkTalk and was wondering if they are still having problems these days

I'm aware of past problems (can't get on-line - dropped connections, etc) but am hoping that things are now running 'perfectly,' especially seeing-as there don't seem to have been many recent problems posted here

I have no issues with my current ISP, so I would hate to change-over in order to save a few quid, and then end-up with a worse service

Thanks for reading

Regards,
Tony

About six months ago, my daughter-in-law relocated back to the UK after living in Holland for some years. She took out a contract with TalkTalk through the Carphone Warehouse Camberley shop but as she did not have a history of credit in the UK, I stood as guarantor for her contract. Payments were made through a direct debit from her (now) UK bank. After the initial large flurry of telephone calls during the relocation process, she has now decided that the volume does not justify a contract and wished to go to Pay-as-you-Go. Simple you might think. Oh no.

She goes to the Carphone Warehouse shop to be told that, as the guarantor, I must be the one to change this. So, I go to the Carphone Warehouse shop, where I am told that we both have to be present. So, we both make a trek into Camberley to be told by the nice man behind the counter that it can’t be done. I think he must have read (correctly) the look on my face because he hurriedly made a phone call and then said "It’s done". And off we go. She next gets a letter from TalkTalk to say that she will need a code to change over to PAYG and she can get this from telephoning them. This she does only to be told that as my name is on the contract, I must be the one to call them. Sounds familiar ? So I call TalkTalk and eventually crash through the robot guard to talk to a nice man at a call centre. He gives me a code but then says that we must both go back to the Carphone Warehouse shop to implement the change. Apparently we need a new sim card. Now I may be a little slow on the uptake but it does strike me that somewhere along the way, there is a complete lack of communication from this wonderful highly efficient (their adverts) and highly profitable company.
The saga continues. With all the hassle caused by the snow, daughter is unable to get down to submitting the code. When she does, she is told that it is time expired (after a week ! ). Now the nice man I referred to above did not tell me that. So off we go again. Once more I have to outwit the robot guard and finally get to talk to a real live person. I explain again the problem and ask for a new code only to be told that it will take up to three working days. So how come I was given one "off the shelf" so to speak on the last occasion ? To which there is no answer. I really do despair.
I wonder if I will get a code texted to me inside 3 days. Now, can I hold my breath for that long.[/img]

It is now January 30th. We have finally managed to get a PAC code out of TT and the changeover has been made.

I've been with TalkTalk for a year and a half and haven't had any problems until the last couple of months. Exactly what the other comments say - the connection is ok for some time, then drops, then ok again, drops again. Sometimes after restarting the router it goes well for some time.

The wireless connection manager found 2 networks available - TalkTalk and another one, which is unsecured (doesn't require a password). So I connected to the unsecured one. Works with no problems whatsoever. Reconnected to TalkTalk - the same old problems, can't go online at all. At the moment I am writing this from the other network. Solid proof, that the problem is not in my computer/router/etc.

The contract with TalkTalk is coming to an end, if they don't do anything to improve the situation SOON I'll be looking for another provider.
